Inspired to Learn
Empowered to Excel
from the Principal
I am delighted to welcome you to Chipping Campden School. As Principal, it is my privilege to lead the school and I extend a very warm welcome to students, parents and our friends in the local community and beyond.
Our school is indeed a very special place – unlike any other. The culture and ethos that has been grown since the school’s formation in 1440, enables students to feel empowered in their learning and inspired to excel.
Baptist Hicks (1550/51-1629) was a very wealthy London merchant who gained a knighthood and other honours from James I, presumably because he loaned the king thousands of pounds when he came to the throne in 1603. He owned land and property all over England and acquired the Manor of Campden in 1612. (See More)
John Fereby was a clerk to the Royal Household at the Court of Henry V (1413-1422) and Henry VI (1422-1471) and was appointed by the Crown to numerous posts. In 1408 he was given the Wardenship of the Hospital of St Michael at Llanderweryn and in 1410 he became Controller of the custom and the subsidy of wools, with the keeping of part of the coket seal.
