On Friday 22nd of September, year 12 and 13 English Literature students were lucky enough to attend our first 6th form trip of the year to The Globe Theatre to watch a modern interpretation of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest.
Maria created this art piece as a submission for a Black History Month competition. We asked her what her thought process was behind this incredible piece of work.
The evening started with a powerful opening address from Mr. Brown, in which he provided context and insight into his lived experience as an educator who witnessed racial abuse in schools being dealt with poorly, early in his career. His speech ended with him highlighting the need for a school’s staff body to reflect its students’ diversity and highlighted Urswick leadership role models of black African/Caribbean heritage; both past and present.
